It is a series of sculptures inspired by original Aztec, Olmec, and Mayan sculptures, which are intervened with elements that provide us with clues about the past and future of humanity.

 

Cerrillo’s Neoncestral Sculptures are inspired by original Aztec, Olmec and Mayan art and are interleaved with elements which provide us with clues about the past and future of humanity. The sculptures include QR codes integrated into the ancient appearance of gods, such as Ah Muzenkab, the protector of honey, and the Melipona Maya bee. Although this insect has no sting and is in danger of extinction, it has survived for centuries. It continues to pollinate thousands of species on our planet, challenging the Darwinian idea of survival of the fittest.
